Wait for Sunset

And something magic may happen.

Like elves running around in the moonlight...

Something like that.

Another lineless. This one was a 'quickie' - done in one sitting. Trying to improve/ begin drawing in the BACKGROUNDS of things. Oh my.

Aya Takano

I love the eerie whimsy found in Aya Takano's art. <3 I am obsessed.

See more of her sketches here and read more about her here.

Fancy this, fancy that

I found this awesome blog, Hyperbole and a Half through a FB group I've been frequenting. It is awesome. She tells stories through comics and short paragraphs of awesome. What more could I want?

Anyway she has a character, the "alot", inspired by people's grammar mistakes.

I made a Yale-themed one. Go me.

Hieronymus Bosch

This has got to be one of my favorite paintings. This is a triptych (middle panel pictured above) by Hieronymus Bosch. More about the painter here.

Wayang kulit

I have been a fan of Rob Ryan's magical paper cut-outs for a while, and I've recently decided to try some for myself! To start, I've been looking up Indonesian Shadow Puppet Theatre, or Wayang kulit. Read about Shadow Puppetry here.

These are just quickies. Excuse the lack of contrast, the lighting is pretty terrible in the studio at night. Fun to do, but there is a lot more to think about than I expected. I also am in dire need of a super sharp blade; any sort of dullness tears the paper really easily. Thick paper is nice because it is very stiff, so the shadows show up well, whereas thinner paper is easier to cut, tears more easily, and is floppy.
