Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays, everyone! Here's another bird (and her shadow) to wish you all well. This is the first piece I did on my program. I had just gotten off the overnight train and picked the only free spot available in the studio filled with clusters of toys and fake plants and tools (for us to use for our still life studies). Luckily for me I got to draw this majestic (plastic) gull.

See you in 2011! :)

Stornoway

This weekend, I went to the Island of Lewis & Harris.

I went with a fellow art student and we both stayed with her friend, a lovely person who greeted us with bowls of soup and freshly baked vegan banana bread muffins (oh my, they were amazing). The next morning we went to a sandy beach, where I got to make a small stone formation for the Victoria & Albert World Beach Project.

The weather has been in a constant roller-coaster: snow arrives, suddenly, in large, tumbling flakes...and exits stage left in a mess of gray puddles and slightly warmer weather. Thankfully, this weekend was on the "warm" side, with a high of over 40ºF. Take out your sunglasses, people! But seriously... it was good not to have to wear gloves constantly.

And this is the little formation that I ended up with. I made three, but this circle turned out to be my favorite.

Is it possible, in the final analysis, for one human being to achieve perfect understanding of another?

We can invest enormous time and energy in serious efforts to know another person, but in the end, how close can we come to that person's essence? We convince ourselves that we know the other person well, but do we really know anything important about anyone?"

Fanciful Figures

Welcome to my new blog. I will be posting my art, my thoughts ("fancies"), and whatever else randomly comes to mind. Follow me on my journey!

These images are from last week's figure drawing. It was a wonderful, challenging week, and great fun!
